The primary objectives of the Berghof Research Center for Constructive Conflict Management (BRC) are to test and improve strategies and instruments of constructive conflict management, to decrease violence, and to promote social justice.

Observing the weak flow of information between the domains of practice, research and theory, BRC is especially supportive of projects that can be applied in practice.

A fundamental concept in the work of BRC is the concept of "peace constituencies." This involves building structures composed of individuals and institutions from conflict regions active on local, regional and national levels, and people from the outside who play the role of mediators. The Center's activities are aimed at increasing the number of such constituencies, and helping them consolidate in order to transform conflicts permanently.

The website contains information about ongoing and completed projects, and reports of the conclusions drawn from them. The BRC website also offers the Berghof Handbook for Conflict Transformation, a compendium of knowledge about conflict resolution. The format allows online comments on the articles, and online submission of new material, making this a continuously updated resource.
