The United States Institute of Peace serves Americans and their government through education, training, research opportunities and information services. Its Board of Directors is selected by the President of the United States and approved by the Senate. The Institute informs American society of the ever-changing nature of international relations, and highlights the best strategies for prevention, governance, and compromise-oriented diplomacy. It supports the legislative and executive branches of government. The main task of the organization is to participate in international conflict resolution by promoting dialogue. It also runs training programs for experts from international institutions and NGOs on the prevention, management and resolution of conflict. It emphasizes educating of young people and informing public opinion about peace processes.
