Teaching Tolerance was initiated in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, as a response to the rising level of intolerance and racial crimes among youth. The main goal is to support teachers in promoting respect for diversity, not only in the classroom. The website contains information about teaching programs encouraging tolerance and combating prejudice, ready-to-use syllabi, and descriptions of actions implemented in various parts of the United States. The most interesting initiatives are described on the site, and in Teaching Tolerance magazine, published twice a year. It also includes current events from American press related to tolerance and combating prejudice.
