The We the Peoples Initiative (WPI) works to strengthen and foster peace activities by cooperating with smaller organizations and organized local groups worldwide. The mission of WPI is to fulfill the idea of peacebuilding through cooperation, understood as the creation of a multicultural and multinational community based on respect for diversity, open communication and dialogue. The mission is carried out by the 225 organizations and local groups that form WPI, which are active in a variety of areas: culture, education, law, economics, health, science and technology, and religion. For these organizations, WPI is a forum for dialogue, allowing exchange of experience and facilitating the search for project partners via a mailing list. WPI is also active in lobbying for the creation of multicultural and multigenerational advisory groups, as well as increased participation of young people in conferences and seminars organized by the UN. A key part of WPI operations is promotion of the International Day of Peace on October 21, established by a UN resolution in 1981, the result of PTP and WPI efforts.

The website includes a list of many ways of participating in the annual event: the symbolic lighting of a candle in a window, a minute of silence at school or in the workplace, organizing a collection for the sick, etc. The website also contains annual reports of organizational activities and of the International Day of Peace, short descriptions of PTP projects, and suggestions for working strategies and tools.
