CERD is the first institution created by the UN to monitor the activities of member nations in terms of their compliance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. All countries that adopted the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of March 4, 1991, must submit periodic reports to the CERD. The Committee also allows individuals and groups to file racial discrimination complaints.

CERD is made up of 18 experts elected for four-year terms. CERD publishes reports on terrorism and topics related to human rights observance.

The website contains informational materials from CERD sessions, topical discussions and reports of CERD activities.
