The Open Society Institute (OSI) is an organization funded by George Soros, who currently serves as its chairman. OSI is the main element of the Soros Foundations Network, which includes independent foundations and nongovernmental organizations active in more than 50 countries. OSI also cooperates with other NGOs, governmental organizations and international institutions. Its headquarters are in New York and Budapest. The main task of OSI is to support various initiatives that promote open society. This is done through a range of activities such as supporting economic reforms, supporting education at all levels, assisting the development of the media and communications, public health, art and culture. OSI offers grants, scholarships and fellowships. The organization’s activities are wide-ranging geographically as well (Europe, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Mongolia, Southeast Asia, Turkey, United States).
