The International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) was created in 1959. Its international academic staff, including students to whom the Institute provides scholarships and research tools, strive to add a practical dimension to its academic research, in the form of projects and strategies for resolving existing or potential conflicts all over the world. The research falls under three strategic programs: conflict resolution and peace maintenance; ethics, norms and identity; and international policy and security. The Institute also has a research center that studies civil war and its effects in areas from international relations to environmental quality.
The website includes short descriptions of research projects, tables of contents of current magazines, and publication bibliographies. Registered users can access electronic versions of resource materials and data used by the authors of articles in the Journal of Peace Research.
