The Association of Roma in Limanowa (SR-L) was established in 1997. It is active in the region around the town of Nowy Sącz in southern Poland. The Association aims to preserve and cultivate Romani language, traditions and culture, supports artistic initiatives, and cares for the needs of Romani youth attending public schools. The meet the latter objective, SR-L initiated and maintains a program in which Romani assistants monitor school attendance and help with Polish language learning. SR-L works with many Romani organizations as well as those of other ethnic and national minorities. It cooperates with governmental and nongovernmental institutions to provide healthcare and help for the homeless, and to promote Romani culture.
