UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations, created in 1946 (44 countries, including Poland, participated in the founding conference in 1945). In the area of education, UNESCO works to counteract illiteracy and develop schooling. UNESCO initiates, organizes and coordinates international research projects. Another objective of UNESCO is to preserve the cultural and natural world heritage; the agency organizes informative campaigns and publishes materials in this area.
